Christmas-lights-on in Dauin

❣️Witness the enchanting lights on ceremony on December 8, 2023 at 6PM and celebrate the spirit of the holidays with us. Bring your family and friends for an. unforgettable magical evening at Dauin Municipal Plaza as we illuminate the town with the joy and warmth of the Christmas season ????????????????????‍???????????????? Galicano Truita.     This invitation from the mayor of Dauin, Negros Oriental, was accepted by a large number of residents and tourists from the nearby diving resorts. They had a great spectacle as the mayor drove up to the town hall for the event and was escorted to the place of honor. A prayer was said, the national anthem was sung together with the population, an amateur group performed a beautiful, modern nativity play, a singer performed and shortly afterwards the barangay captains were able to switch on the lights together for this year’s Christmas season. What a fantastic evening for young and old. [siteorigin_widget class=”WP_Widget_Media_Gallery”][/siteorigin_widget] If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch the accompanying video here

Weekend in the mountains of Sibulan

Weekend in the mountains of Sibulan

We accepted the offer from good friends and were able to look forward to a wonderful weekend in the mountains of Sibulan, Negros Oriental. Early in the morning on a Saturday, we loaded up the car for the trip and picked up plenty of beer and ice on the way. Later passing through Tanjay City, before heading to Pamplona, we bought some meat for barbeque at the local market. To get to this highland area of Sibulan, you have to drive from Dumaguete through Sibulan on national road 7 via San Jose and Amlan and then turn off onto the road to Pamplona inland in Tanjay City. After that, I lost my bearings on the small side roads, where we had to turn off every now and then and which were sometimes very bad.       We were there at lunchtime and when the freshly prepared kinilaw (raw fish cooked in vinegar) arrived at the table, it wasn’t long before the first ice-cold beer appeared in our hands. Over coffee and beer, we enjoyed the sweeping view across the plain to Bais City. When it got dark, karaoke was sung and the weekend was celebrated. The morning began with another great view, until the group prepared for departure again. This was delayed with a picnic and a dip in the cool waters of the river below the weekend home. But that is yet another small experience in the mountains of Sibulan.       I have captured the full experience in the following video – here ->> WEEKEND TRIP to the MOUNTAIN VIEW of SIBULAN

Early morning at Dauin beach

Early morning at Dauin beach

We came early to see what was going on here in the early morning. Not much at first. Some dive resorts are sweeping up fallen leaves. The dive boats are quiet. Occasionally someone sits at the tables. We meet a Filipino family from Geneva in Switzerland, who actually come from Dipolog but are on a trip to Dauin. A young couple are bathing a little further on and are on their own. A young woman comes towards me on the beach. She’s in a hurry in her colorful beachwear and umbrella against the already biting sun.     I see movement on one and then the second dive boat and make my way back. Here the first dive boats are being loaded with the necessary equipment and the first divers have also arrived at the station and are getting ready for boarding. The ice cream man is ringing his ear and mine. I take pity on him and tell my wife to buy us two ice cream           It’s probably busy here in the afternoon and evening hours, in the shade of the trees and on a balmy tropical night on the beach, on cushions and in hammocks. Have fun in Dauin diving and on the beach.   You can also experience what you see here in the pictures in a short video. MORNING at the BEACH in DAUIN

Private dive at Dauin Beach

Private dive at Dauin Beach

Our last stay in Dauin was a long one of around 10 weeks with our daughter Jenny and her family. The next family had a Reuinon with her son, who had gone to Germany after working as a chef in Saudi Arabia and now lives there. Angelo brought his partner Beatrize, a Portuguese woman, and introduced her to the family. Gary, Jenny’s husband, has turned her into an enthusiastic diver and so there were several dives right in front of the house during this time. In the background, under the roof of the veranda, you can see the diving island of Apo, which also belongs to Dauin. Dauin is well known in the diving community due to its famous dive sites. Here are a few pictures from one of these dives. Later we also had a day trip with one of the diving boats to the island of Apo. At the beach of Dauin

At the beach of Dauin

The town of Dauin in Negros Oriental and not far from the city of Dumaguete has a public beach in the middle of the town. This is shared by bathers, dive boats and several marine protected areas where fishing is not allowed. In terms of tourists, divers are in the majority here, visiting the dive centers and resorts here. The diving areas are located along the coast and in particular around the small island of Apo, which politically also belongs to Dauin. In the water at the beach you usually find more locals than tourists. The tourists sit in the shade under the trees with a cool drink and wait for the next dive to experience the wonderful underwater world in Dauin.   [siteorigin_widget class=”WP_Widget_Media_Gallery”][/siteorigin_widget] The place Dauin has not only interesting things to offer for divers. In the mountainous hinterland there are some gems to explore and visit, which can serve very well as a little diversion between dives. Some of them I could capture in my video about DAUIN and can be watched here:   DAUIN – The Town

Preparations for a diving trip in Dauin

Preparations for a diving trip in Dauin

Our daughter, her husband and son Emerson live right in front of one of the dive spots in Dauin between dive resorts. It’s just a few steps from the house to the water with a bustling underwater life.   The incredible scenery of Dauin and Dumaguete – with dramatic black volcanic sand beaches and Mount Talinis in the background – is remarkable in itself. But it’s what lies beneath the surface that attracts divers. Dumaguete’s fascinating inhabitants rival those of the “muck diving” meccas of Lembeh and Anilao, and nearby Apo Island offers stunning reefs, turtles and sea snakes. With so much on offer, it’s no wonder that this beautiful destination is a perfect, quiet coastal spot for divers.   The waters around Dauin and Dumaguete in the Southern Visayas, located on the coast of Negros Island, consistently offer wildlife lovers some of the best encounters in Southeast Asia. The gently sloping sand flats, dotted with patches of coral, are teeming with rare, bizarre and ugly animals. From yawning frogfish to camouflaged ghost pipefish, from mating flashy squid to hunting coconut octopus, Dumaguete is a dreamy place to cross things off your dive list. Other highlights include spiny and pygmy seahorses, exotic nudibranchs and flatworms, velvet ghost pipefish, Ambon dragonheads and mating mandarinfish.   Nearby Apo Island, surrounded by coral walls and busy reefs, is perfect for a day trip. Just 30 minutes away by traditional Filipino banca, divers visiting Apo Island can see large schools of stingrays, plenty of turtles, and the occasional roaming pelagic fish – a testament to the efforts to protect these reefs for so long. Look for the volcanic gases rising through the sand – it’s not every day you can say you’ve dived a geothermal vent.   Dumaguete sits at the base of Mount Talinis – also known as the Cuernos de Negros (Horns of Negros) – and visitors can take a dramatic drive along the national highway that winds beneath the mountain. Once you leave Dumaguete City behind, you’re soon immersed in the more traditional Philippines, with villages and food stalls lining the streets, until you finally reach the coast and resorts hidden among coconut palms – an ideal place to get away from it all.   If you are planning a longer stay in the Philippines, Dauin is an ideal place to take the ferry across to the fabulous island of Bohol in two hours or back to Cebu for the whale sharks of Oslob or the fantastic dive destinations of Malapascua and Moalboal.   They personally trust their good friend and dive instructor PADI / SD-TDI / RAID GIBSON SOJOR Jr., Tel.: 0917 501 8350 who also organized this dive trip with the dive boat ETHAN | APO SCUBA.   We had only 2 kilometers to drive from the house to the public beach in Dauin where the dive boats were moored. The following pictures show some of the preparations for this diving trip. Some things were taken from home, like diving suits, fins and other things. The dive tanks were provided on site. We still had a big ice box with food with us, but there Ella should bring some more. Because later I could film her as sin grilled chicken parts in the galley.
