On December 9, it was that time again – lights-on with the realization that Christmas was only a few days away.
The plaza in Dauin, Negros Oriental, Philippines had been beautifully decorated by hardworking hands and wired with lots of colorful lights.
Around 6pm that evening, a large portion of the community population along with some expats and tourists from the surrounding resorts waited for the mayor and the barangay captains of the place to officially turn on the lights.
A group of young, talented amateur actors performed a modern version of the nativity play, a gifted singer, a teacher at one of the government schools in Dauin, sang for everyone, prayer and the singing of the national anthem rounded off the short event, then it was countdown for the barangay captains and the lights went on.
